Like nearby Red Breaks, Big Horn Canyon is an interesting tributary of Harris Wash in a rarely explored part of the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument.It runs for three miles through hilly, shrub-covered land between the wash, the Escalante River and highway UT 12, cutting into Navajo sandstone rock layers that here display an unusually wide range of colors, textures and formations. It was named Grand Staircase-Escalante due to the many plateaus (including the Kaiparowits plateau, the highest plateau at 9000 feet) that descend from Bryce Canyon National Park south to the Grand Canyon. The canyons of the Escalante provide amazing drives and beautiful slot canyons to explore! Willis Creek Slot Canyon is located off Skutumpah Road in Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. The hike is a 4.8-mile round trip, but you can turn around after you finish the narrows section, making it a 2.6-mile round trip.
